Nigeria

The National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (NACGRAB) was established in 1987 by the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology with a mandate to collect and conserve valuable genetic resources for food and agriculture and ensure that they are used sustainably. The genebank is located in Ibadan in south-west Nigeria.

NACGRAB holds 13,839 accessions from 43 crops. The collections also have 206 crop wild relatives collected and 354 obtained from other institutions. A small number of accessions of breeding material and released varieties are conserved, mainly due to NACGRAB’s role in variety release.

An overview of the plant samples collected in Nigeria but possibly conserved elsewhere can be found here.
