Congratulations to Dr. Sanjaya Rajaram, winner of the 2014 World Food Prize. His work with Dr. Norman Borlaug at CIMMYT and ICARDA led to the development of 480 wheat varieties for use against diseases and changing climates have led to an improvement of agricultural productivity. It just shows how important plant genetic resources are for mankind. Without the material found at the genebanks at CIMMYT and ICARDA, those 480 varieties might never have been developed.
