Pilot project on pre-breeding and evaluation of sunflower and its wild relatives
- Grant No
- GS11018
- Project Description
- This project collected and analyzed nearly 300 wild Helianthus samples. It also evaluated 55 previously developed pre-bred lines. Of these 55, many accessions showed significant variation from each other and from the elite line used for backcrossing. Two accessions showed promising transgression for early flowering and large head diameter. These alleles are useful in preparing for future climatic shifts.
