Utilization of Carrot CWRs for Carrot Pre-Breeding in Bangladesh and Pakistan
- Grant No
- GS14014
- Project Description
- This project supported the use of carrot crop wild relatives for pre-breeding in Bangladesh and Pakistan. Though subtropical cultivars are only 40 years old, carrots are highly valued in warmer climates because they combat the high levels of Vitamin A deficiency found in these areas of the world. Anticipated increased temperatures and water shortages, however, will put pressure on subtropical cultivars. The climate-resilient traits found in wild relatives of carrot make them ideal for the expansion of the already diverse germplasm of cultivated carrot.
