Seed Longevity Initiative of CGIAR Genebanks: Inter- and intra-species differences in seed longevity: what can be discovered from the historical germination test data of the CGIAR genebanks?
- Grant No
- GS15017
- Project Description
- The cost of conservation, the use of plant genetic resources, and forward-planning the regeneration of accessions hinges upon genebank understanding of relative seed longevity. Unfortunately, the variables that affect the life-span of seeds, such as the species and pre- and post-harvest conditions, are rather poorly understood. This project supported an effort by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) to gain understanding about the timeline of seed viability through analysis of historical germination re-test data and training to IRRI staff and national genebanks.
