Identification of superior alleles and lines from wild Cajanus species for pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) improvement
- Grant No
- GS15020
- Project Description
- Genetic enhancement of cultivated pigeon pea is not adequate due to its narrow genetic base. Wild pigeon pea, though, provides novel genetic variations and possesses high levels of resistance against biotic and abiotic stresses, including salinity, blight, and pod borer. Accordingly, this project focused on the exploitation of high yielding gene complexes from interspecific crosses with pigeon pea crop wild relatives.
