Evaluation of drought tolerance in wild bananas from Indonesia
- Grant No
- GS15024
- Project Description
- Most edible bananas are susceptible to drought with reported yield losses up to 65%. Wild varieties of banana with the AA genome configuration (as opposed to the BB genome configuration already known to be drought tolerant) are abundant in Indonesia. This project evaluated drought tolerance in these varieties through the crossing of a tolerant non-edible variety and a sensitive edible variety.
