Building the Genesys Catalog of Phenotypic Datasets

Grant No
GS16039
Project Description
The World Vegetable Center (WorldVeg) is an international organization that works on vegetables research and development to alleviate global poverty and malnutrition. WorldVeg conducts vegetable breeding activities and maintains a large public domain vegetable germplasm collection. WorldVeg is one partner in the project that is coordinated by the Global Crop Diversity Trust. WorldVeg will be especially involved in three outputs of the project: Output 3 - development of query tools and user interfaces, Output 4 - making pilot datasets available in the catalog, and Output 5 - preparing data sets and procedures for data publication. WorldVeg will work on five morphological characterization datasets and one resistance evaluation dataset. These pilot datasets were selected as they represent significant information relevant for breeding and other research but also, as they in different ways may test the data publication process. During the project WorldVeg will establish a procedure so that published data on geneplasm from WorldVeg genebank is made available and shared with the project under the Genesys Catalog framework for reference and archival.
