Jayanthi Nadarajan is the Science Team Leader for the Germplasm Conservation Team at Plant and Food Research, New Zealand and Programme Leader for the New Zealand Ministry of Business funded Nationally Significant Databases and Collections at Plant and Food Research. Prior to joining the Plant and Food Research in 2017, Jayanthi was affiliated with the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, United Kingdom, working on the Millennium Seed Bank Programme. She is also the current Chair of the Seed Storage Committee of the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) (Seed Storage Committee - Technical Committees - International Seed Testing Association), with responsibility to manage the work programme of the committee.

Jayanthi has over 16 years’ experience in plant conservation science with particular focus in seed conservation science. She advocates integrated conservation strategies which include conservation of pollen and seed, complemented by in vitro and cryopreservation techniques to mitigate the effects of biotic and abiotic threats to threatened and endangered plants in field / wild populations.
