International Day for Biological Diversity 2022

May 22 each year marks the International Day for Biological Diversity. This year, the theme is “building a shared future for all life” to highlight that biodiversity is the foundation upon which we can build back better.

Biodiversity, from ecosystem-based approaches to climate and nature-based solutions to climate, health, food and water security and sustainable livelihoods, is the answer to many sustainable development challenges.

At the Crop Trust, we are dedicated to conserving and making the biodiversity of our crops available for use globally, forever and for the benefit of everyone.

CHEF SKA MIRRIAM MOTEANE ON THE IMPORTANCE OF CROP DIVERSITY

We race to rescue crop diversity in danger of disappearing forever. We pursue conservation and use of the wild cousins of our food crops. And we help develop a new generation of information technologies to make the world’s crop diversity searchable and accessible wherever it is needed.

Celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity at the Bonn Botanical Gardens in Bonn, Germany

The Bonn Botanical Gardens will open its doors for this special day, inviting the general public to learn more about organizations and institutions working with biological diversity.

This is an opportunity to meet with Crop Trust staff and learn more about their work conserving and using crop diversity in seed banks, why it is so important for food security and the role of the Svalbard Global Seed Vault.

Join us from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2022 to celebrate crop diversity.

Admission is free.
