Summary

The Crop Trust is seeking an outstanding candidate for the position of Communications Intern to help support the Communications Team and provide communications services to Crop Trust staff more broadly.

Description

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Communications Officer, the Communications Intern will help support the Communications Team and provide communications services to Crop Trust staff more broadly.

Responsibilities

1. Website and Digital Support

  • Assist in maintaining the Crop Trust corporate website by uploading and updating news, press releases, media mentions, vacancies and other content.
  • Help support routine updates to the Crop Trust’s digital platforms such as the Crop Trust Academy and the Opportunity Crops Knowledge Base.
  • Conduct quality checks of digital platforms to identify broken links, formatting issues and outdated content.
  • Upload and organize publications, reports and other digital resources.

2. Multimedia and Communications Assets

  • Maintain and organize the institutional photo and video library, Flickr account and other digital asset repositories.
  • Ensure photographs and multimedia assets are appropriately captioned, tagged, categorized and archived.
  • Support the development and updating of institutional presentations, communication materials and branded templates.
  • Maintain communications file repositories, mailing lists and other communications resources.

3. Social Media and Digital Communications

  • Support the scheduling and publishing of content across the Crop Trust's social media channels.
  • Assist in creating social media campaigns, including writing posts, creating simple graphics and visual assets using approved templates and branding guidelines.
  • Support the production and distribution of newsletters using the organization's email marketing platform.

4. General Communications Support

  • Collect and compile communication materials, images and background information to support communication products.
  • Assist in preparing meeting notes, tracking action points and maintaining communications records and files.
  • Liaise with colleagues to gather content, images and supporting materials for communications products.
  • Perform other communications-related duties as assigned by the Head of Communications.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program (such as a master’s program, or higher) in communications, journalism, media studies, marketing, digital communications, public information or a related field; or:
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree in one of the above areas and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation; or:
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program in one of the above areas and undertake the internship as part of this program.

Work Experience

  • Experience supporting communications functions in an international organization, public institution, NGO or multilateral environment is desirable.
  • Experience with website content management systems, digital content publishing, social media platforms, newsletter production or email marketing platforms is desirable.
  • Experience maintaining digital asset libraries, online knowledge platforms or multimedia repositories is desirable.
  • Experience using basic graphic design software, such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite, is an asset.

Language

  • Excellent written and spoken English is required. Competency in another UN language or German is an asset.

IT Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, is required.
  • Experience using content management systems (CMS), social media management platforms and email marketing tools is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or similar graphic design software is desirable.
  • Experience with digital asset management systems, photo libraries or multimedia editing tools is an asset.

Competencies

  • Demonstrated ability to draft, edit and format clear and accurate communications materials.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments within established deadlines.
  • Ability to organize and maintain digital content, files and information in a systematic manner.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to learn new digital tools and adapt to evolving communications technologies and workflows.

Terms and Conditions

The internship is for initially six months and is based at the Crop Trust Office in Bonn, Germany. Selected candidates must show proof of valid visa and medical insurance for Germany. The Internship is full-time. In case the intern is financially supported by any institution or program, such as a university, government, foundation or scholarship program, a stipend intended to help cover basic daily expenses in the amount of 1200 EUR per month will be paid by the Crop Trust.
