Overview

ISABU is a national institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, and Livestock, established by Legislative Ordinance No. B7/11 of June 22, 1962. Its mandate is to conduct agricultural research to provide Burundian farmers with high-performing animal and plant material, as well as appropriate supporting technologies. The official texts governing ISABU are laws, internal regulations, and Decree-Law No. 1/123 of July 25, 1988, concerning the organizational regulations of public institutions in Burundi.

Mission

Promote agronomic research by providing farmers with high-performing animal and plant material and improved agro-pastoral techniques; Develop technologies and innovations that promote sustainable and integrated management of natural resources for agricultural production; Foster interaction among key players in rural development through the promotion of value chains for added value from research results; Strengthen the capacities and skills of human and material resources for competitive agro-pastoral research.
