Overview

The Chadian Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (ITRAD) is a public scientific and technical institution (EPCST) with legal personality and financial autonomy. Established by Law No. 001/PR/98 of January 27, 1998, ITRAD thus put an end to the various structures and names of agricultural research in Chad. Its remit covers the areas of crop, fisheries, and forestry production, as well as agri-food technologies, agricultural policies, and the training and mentoring of young national professionals. It is under the administrative supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and is primarily funded by national subsidies from the public treasury.

Thanks to the support of the country's highest authority, research has made appreciable progress in response to the resources made available to it; ITRAD has revised its first medium-term plan, which has resulted in a second.
