Genetic Resources for Climate Resilient Agrifood Systems
Lunchtime event on the margins of the June Climate Meetings organized in partnership with FAO and UNFCCC

Though the key role of agrifood systems in addressing climate change is widely recognized, including under the UNFCCC, the contribution of genetic resources for food and agriculture in ensuring their sustainability and resilience is often overlooked.
This event aims to raise awareness of the urgent need to conserve and sustainably use genetic diversity as a cornerstone of strategies to adapt agrifood systems to rapidly changing environmental conditions. By fostering dialogue among policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders, the event will highlight the critical role of genetic resources not only in ensuring food security, resilience, and sustainability in the face of climate change, but also in maintaining sustainable landscapes and supporting the availability of healthy and nutritious diets for all. The diversity of genetic resources underpins ecosystem functions, enhances the adaptability of agricultural production systems, and contributes directly to human nutrition and well-being—making their conservation and use essential to a climate-resilient and inclusive future.
