The Hmong farmers of this district have built the steep hillsides into terraces that are often only a meter wide, but together add up to more than 22 square kilometers of irrigated rice paddies. May 22 each year marks the International Day for Biological Diversity. This year, the theme is “building a shared future for all life" to highlight that biodiversity is the foundation upon which we can build back better.

Biodiversity, from ecosystem-based approaches to climate and nature-based solutions to climate, health, food and water security and sustainable livelihoods, is the answer to many sustainable development challenges.

At the Crop Trust, we are dedicated to conserving and making the biodiversity of our crops available for use globally, forever and for the benefit of everyone. We race to rescue crop diversity in danger of disappearing forever. We pursue conservation and use of the wild cousins of our food crops. And we help develop a new generation of information technologies to make the world’s crop diversity searchable and accessible wherever it is needed.
