Seed banks are vital living repositories of crop diversity – a form of agricultural insurance that underpins global food security. Yet many remain underfunded and at risk. In 2024, Dr. Cary Fowler was awarded the 2024 World Food Prize. As a pioneer of crop diversity conservation and one of the visionaries behind the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, he donated most of his prize to the Crop Trust.

“Saving the biological foundation of agriculture is no small task,” Fowler said – but it is one of the most urgent missions of our time.
