Project Description

The INRAN genebank requires financial support to secure 231 accessions currently at risk due to inadequate storage. The genebank’s cold room has been nonfunctional, and all existing freezers are full, leaving newly collected materials exposed to deterioration. Funding is requested for the procurement of 2 new freezers and for the regeneration and characterization of newly collected crop accessions, particularly sorghum and okra. The ICRISAT regional office in Niger will facilitate the implementation of this grant in collaboration with INRAN Niger, ensuring that all activities, including procurement, regeneration, and characterization, are efficiently executed and reported in line with the Emergency Reserve Fund’s operational framework.
