Harnessingcrop diversity to mitigate the effects of our changing climate” -Finger Millet component
- Grant No
- WP2 Tanzania TARI - Finger millet
- Project Description
- This project will improve the resilience of finger millet in East Africa (EA) through (i) The exploitation of existing introgression lines and any new germplasm collections for enhanced biotic and abiotic stresses, (ii) Identification of superior pre-bred genotypes and making them accessible to farmers and breeders, (iii) Genetic characterization of traits of interest, and (iv) Establishment and optimization of finger millet hybridization to enable routine trait introgression. Expected outcomes include enhancement of the genetic diversity of EA finger millet varieties and breeding pools, increased acreage under finger millet, and the conservation of valuable pre-bred germplasm and CWRs.
